Government

Helping Improve Controls and Accountability

State and local governments, as well as public and charter school systems, must meet a variety of financial and reporting requirements — often under the intense scrutiny of both lawmakers and constituents. But they also have a multitude of ongoing functions and responsibilities, and can’t let reporting and accounting tasks distract them from their core duties.

At BerganKDV, we have extensive experience serving the needs of state and local governments, as well as entities such as nonprofit colleges and charter schools. We have been serving both municipal government and quasi-governmental entities throughout the Midwest for more than 60 years.

We’re different — in several important ways
  • First, we’re heavily involved in the same associations our government clients belong to, including the Association of Governing Accountants and the Government Financial Officers Association. This involvement allows us to work side by side with government officials on projects and activities to strengthen the capabilities of government at every level. It also gives us first-hand insights into the recurring challenges faced by our government clients.
  • We offer a wide range of services. For example, while we are often tasked with conducting audits for agencies, we can also help them prepare for audits conducted by other firms. In addition, we can conduct more specialized assessments, such as audits of law enforcement agency evidence rooms and even the performance of a municipality’s mass transit system. We can also help clients select and implement streamlined systems for timekeeping and payroll, such as our integrated platform, K-Pay. And we routinely offer training in the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) accounting principles that our clients’ accounting professionals must adhere to.
  • Our education clients rely on us to help manage all that comes with school finance – grant management, financial planning and reporting, fiscal year-end audits, legislative changes that impact operations and more – so they can focus on what’s important – their students. Our team works closely with all interested parties during the financing of your facilities, whether through traditional bond financing or a bank loan.
  • Last but not least, we serve the needs of a wider range of government entities than typical professional services firms. For example, we have worked extensively with Sanitary and Improvement Districts and Natural Resources Boards throughout the Midwest. In addition, we have significant experience working with charter schools and nonprofit colleges, providing outsourced accounting services, audits and other services.
