Should My Business Switch to Windows 11?

Many industry analysts agree that you shouldn’t be hasty to move to Windows 11 right away, even with the new security features included with the operating system. In fact, most are recommending that their customers take the appropriate steps to make sure they are ready, and not rush into the decision. Does it make sense for your business to make the switch? Here are some considerations to make before moving to Windows 11, and what next steps BerganKDV recommends.

Why wait?

There are many valid reasons not to rush into a new operating system. The first is maturity. Nobody likes being a guinea pig when it comes to testing new products, and especially when it has the potential to affect the flow of business.

Another good reason to wait before switching is app compatibility. Microsoft promises that all your favorite apps will be compatible with Windows 11, but that doesn’t mean that they will be fully compatible out of the gate without any modification on the currently released version. As with any new change, you will want to make sure to thoroughly test the apps your business uses on Windows 11 to ensure compatibility before moving the rest of your environment over for a seamless transition.

Along with the topic of app compatibility, one other big consideration is hardware compatibility. Windows 11 carries different minimum requirements, the most important of which are its two-core 1GHz processor requirement and 64 GB storage minimum. Microsoft also posted recommended requirements of a two-core processor running at a speed of at least 2.5 GHz and a minimum of 250GB of storage.

For some, that may mean buying new hardware or upgrading components to be compatible. If you’d like to see if your computer is compatible with Windows 11 you can download the PC Health Check App here, or view the full system requirements here.

Industry analysts recommend that businesses start testing as early as 2022, with a potential to roll out as soon as the latter half of the year, but for most, Windows 10 will be a viable option for the next four years, seeing that Microsoft promises that it will be supported until October 14th of 2025.
