Energy Study Results in Substantial Savings

peace of mind that things are on track.”
Kann Manufacturing Corporation Controller Pat Jones is a 31-year veteran of the company of 85 employees in Guttenberg, Iowa. She enjoys the family feel of the company which has been producing high quality refuse, garbage, recycling and agricultural truck bodies, marine work boats and barges, custom-engineered and manufactured products, and warehouse services since 1946.
BerganKDV has partnered with Kann for many years, providing technology hardware, software and support. Recently Cedar Valley Market Sales Leader Mark Oliver asked Pat if she would be interested in having an energy study conducted by the firm’s state and local tax services team, known as SALT. The energy study data is used to provide potential state sales tax refunds back to the company due to overpaid sales tax on electrical and gas usage in addition to providing ongoing sales tax savings from the utility company.
Here’s what Pat had to say about the experience:
“I have enjoyed my relationship over the years with BerganKDV. It is so refreshing to work with a company that takes the time to do things right the first time and care about the people they are working with. When Mark asked me about taking on an energy study, I knew it was a good thing to do but honestly, I was reluctant to dive into it because the previous study we had conducted by another company turned into a three week ordeal and disrupted not only my work but also interrupted our manufacturing process.
Mark assured me that this experience would be entirely different. And he was right. The whole process exceeded our expectations, the energy auditor was on-site for three hours, not three weeks. He did all the leg work with the utility company, and I had minimal prep work to do before he arrived.
The results were amazing, we received $18,000 in refunds going back over the past three years and continue to see about $500 per month in savings. Mark has it set up for us to stay in the three-year rotation required by the utility company to keep us on track. I couldn’t be happier. I know we are in good hands and I can focus my energy in other areas of the business.”
